RazoRock XXX Italian Shaving Soap Review

Italian Barber

Veteran wet shavers are always searching for the next great soap because: unlike canned goop, shaving soap comes in countless varieties and scents.

If you are just starting your journey in wet shaving you’re probably looking for a good, cheap soap that is easy to get a good lather from. Whether your a veteran or a beginner, the company Italian Barber has a line of soaps that may just fit the bill.

Most of their soaps are “Italian style” (soft) soaps which are preferred by the newbie and veteran alike for their ease of loading. Italian Barber delivers high-quality products at rock-bottom prices. One such amazingly awesome soap is their XXX artisan soap!

XXX Great For Beginners

XXX is great for beginners. With minimal effort and skill you will quickly produce a mountain of dense cushiony lather. I have never before used a soap that is so easy to lather.

Because it is a soft soap blooming is unnecessary and only 5-10 seconds of loading is required for a three-pass shave.

Once the lather is built a nice protective cushion contributes to a nice, comfortable shave.

The soap does contain some clay, as do most soft shaving soaps, which affects the slickness of the soap.

The formulation of the soap I used had low slickness so you will have to take it slow and avoid pushing the blade across the skin.

Despite the low slickness the ease of access this soap provides the beginner will result in comfortable shaves quickly.

Note: recently Italian Barber has re-formulated XXX to improve it’s slickness, likely improving glide considerably, though I have yet to try the new formulation.

The last aspect of this soap that really stands out is the smell!

The website calls it a “classic Italian barbershop scent.”I prefer to call it “classic grandpa shaving soap scent,” as it smells exactly like my grandfather’s bathroom after he shaved.

The smell is definitely old-timey and is quite strong. From the second you open up the container until you wash the last of it down the sink you will be savoring its wonderful aroma.

Surprisingly the scent, though strong, washes away easily leaving a blank canvas for your aftershave of choice.

This marvelous soap has one more trick up its sleeve: it is $10 US direct from the vendor. Though you’ll go through the tub faster than you would a triple-milled soap, it will last you at least a couple of months of daily shaves.

This soap is a great place for the beginner to start as well as a worthy addition to the veteran’s rotation. This is the easiest soap to lather I have ever used and the beginner will master it quickly.

Because no blooming is necessary this soap is perfect for the busy man; it will likely take five minutes of prep, tops from loading to shaving. It is my go to when I’m in a hurry and need to squeeze a shave in before work. Give this soap a try and you won’t be disappointed!
